Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What level do you teach?

I teach all levels from an absolute beginner to professionals who are looking to take their career further or to be picked up on bad habits.

Do you teach both electric and acoustic guitar?

Yes. I teach both electric and acoustic guitar and the choice of which to learn is completely up to you.

Do you teach children?

Absolutely, I teach all age groups and pride myself on the specially designed guitar lessons for children I have developed over the years. They are extra fun. Over the years I have taught loads of young students. I am fully CRB checked and have worked as a cover teacher in a local Plymouth secondary school for over two years.

Where are you based?

I teach the majority of my guitar students from my home studio located in Plymouth (PL2 2DH). It is a great place to learn to play the guitar, in a relaxing and positive environment, as well as great transport links. To find my location on Google Maps simply click on the map below.

Alternatively, I am also a mobile teacher so can travel to your home to teach you if you live within Plymouth city boundaries (thought additional charges may apply - for more information simply get in touch). Whichever location works best for you is great for me.

Is there parking?

There are plenty of free parking spaces on the road along the house. You shouldn't have any issues with finding a space.

Do you teach grades?

Certainly, I have taken many students through the Rockschool electric guitar grading exams with fantastic success. I can take students right up to Grade 8 if needed.

What songs will we learn and do I have to take grades?

Not at all, the guitar is just as much about playing as a hobby or in a band than simply taking grades each year. I teach many guitar students how are more than happy to work through songs they like and the choice of what we learn is completely up to you. Whether it is Hannah Montana or Muse we will play the music you are passionate about during our guitar lessons.

How old should my child be before taking lessons?

Generally speaking, seven and above is a good age to begin learning guitar, however, I have taught students as young as five so have developed a range of lessons specially designed for younger children.

What styles do you teach?

I have vast experience in most styles but specialise in pop, rock, funk, soul and blues.

Can you help me to find a good guitar shop?

Absolutely, there are many great shops in Plymouth, I would also recommend reading through a very useful article about Guitar Shops in Plymouth.

Do you do gift vouchers for birthdays & Christmas?
